A Grand Thank You

Hello and welcome! Did you get a chance to see what the fabulous Sharon Harnist created? Isn't she amazing? I just love my new Grand Calibur from Spellbinders, and as you know I've been having a great time coming up with some fun 3-D projects that I could never do with my old, small machine, like this gable box from a few weeks ago.


Today I have another 3-D box to show you, along with a matching card. I used my Grand Calibur, from Spellbinders, to cut all the Nestabilities and Spellbinders' dies shapes. It is so wonderful to have a machine that will cut a full size sheet of card stock and the ability to make some larger boxes with shaped tops. The possibilities seem endless!

On the card, I used Spellbinders Labels Nine, Large Scallop Oval Nestabilities and the Fleur De Lis Pendant Die. One of the things I love most about the Grand Calibur is how well it cuts detailed pendant shapes. With the Grand Calibur, it cuts perfectly in one pass!

For the box, I used Spellbinders Grand Labels Four and the regular, Labels Nine Nestabilities. You wouldn't believe the different box designs you can come up with just from the Grand Labels Four set. I made four box shapes using the different sizes and they all have a different look just by changing the dimensions and die sizes. For this box, I used the largest of the Grand Labels Four.

Look at the beautiful side detail you can create! It gives it such a finished look compared to most box designs. Below, I have instructions on how to make this box, but first, hop on over to see what my talented team mate, Valerie has to show you.

To start my project, I cut a piece of Pure Luxury Ivory card stock, using the largest Grand Labels Four Nestabilities die with my Grand Calibur.

After cutting the Labels Four shape, I sponged lightly around the edges, while it was still in the die, using Memento Desert Sand ink. Then I placed it on my Scor-Pal, lining up the center on one of the score lines. I scored 1 inch from the center in both directions, so I wound up with 2 inches between score lines. I turned my card stock 90 degrees and lined up inner most indent with a score line, then scored the length. Then I lined up the other side and scored that, too. Again you can click on the photo to see it larger. It's a little hard to see the details in this smaller version.

After scoring, I folded and creased on the score lines, then cut for the two tabs on either side.

I turned it over and folded up the tabs to the inside, then added Scor-Tape to the tabs. Then brought the sides together and adhered to the tabs to create the box.

To decorate the box, and card, I cut Pure Luxury Ivory using Spellbinders Labels Nine Nestabilities with my Grand Calibur. While it was still in the die, I sponged Memento Bamboo Leaves ink.

Then sponged Memento Cantaloupe ink. Sorry about the blurry photo.

I stamped the daffodils, from Sending Sunshine, with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then colored with Copics. I started with Y17 where I wanted the deepest color.

Then added Y15.

Filled in with Y11.

On the foliage, I filled in with YG23.

Then shaded with YG95. After coloring, I cut out the flowers.

Before adhering the Labels Nine background layer to the box, I punched a small hole and fed some ribbon through it. Then I used Pop Dots to adhere.

The daffodils were adhered with Pop Dots, right over the punched hole where I fed the ribbon through. The butterflies are from Sending Sunshine and were also color with Copics and cut out.
