Hello! Today I have a pencil holder I made for Donna's 3-D challenge over at StampTV. Each month Donna issues a new challenge with a chance to win a free set of stamps from Gina K. This month the challenge is to make a pencil holder. I used the butterfly from Take Flight and the sentiment from Timeless Treasures for my project.
I started with an empty Hershey's Cocoa container, which I removed the paper from.
Wrapped the container with a piece of designer paper, cut to 4 by 12 inches. The paper is from Stampin' Up. I can't remember the name of the paper pack, but I think it was from the Sale-a-bration catalog this year and might be retired. I used Teriffically Tacky tape to adhere the paper to the container.
To make the background panel, I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Pure Luxury Ivory paper, using Versa Mark ink, then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.
Then I sponged the background, starting with So Saffron ink.
Sponged Apricot Appeal ink.
Then sponged a little bit of Creamy Caramel ink.
I used a stamp from Ribbons and Stripes, inked with More Mustard and stamped off once on scratch paper, to add some dots up the side.
To color the butterfly, I used only colors found in the Copic Caio Box A collection and my blender pen. I started with R29 in the center of the butterfly.
Then added YR07 and blended out from the red.
Next, added YR02 and worked out from the previous color.
Colored over the rest of the image with Y17.
Used my blender pen on the middle parts of the wings to add some highlights.
Last, I added just a bit more YR07 along the very outer edge and along some of the viens, for a little more contrast. Then I cut out the butterfly.
And here is a close up of the finished project. I added a layer of Pure Luxury Chocolate Kiss behind the background layer and some self adhesive nail heads under the sentiment.
I hope you'll join me tomorrow night for a special Inspiration Mosaic blog hop. The hop starts at Melanie's blog and rumor has it, she will have blog candy!
Thanks for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful day!!

Theresa, this is gorgeous, luv, luv, luv it! I was thinking today that I should just walk around my house to see what I could find that would be the right size for a pencil holder. You found the "perfect" thing and you did a fantastic job decorating it. It's definitely a winner.
This is beautiful. I hope to make a pencil holder for the monthly challenge. Yours is so beautiful I know mine won't come close but I will try because you inspire me.
