Relax with MFT

Good morning! There is a really fun challenge going on every week at the My Favorite Things forums at SCS. They are holding a weekly contest modeled after American Idol. Each week the contestants participate in a challenge and one person gets voted off, while the rest move on.

I have been having a great time following the challenges and voting, although it has been difficult choosing, as all the projects have been amazing. This week the idol contestants are getting the week off and the judges (anyone can be a judge, lol) are playing in a contest. The DT at MFT will choose their top ten picks and then the members at SCS get to vote for their favorite.

I decided to be brave and put myself out there for the judges contest and the card above is my submission. Yikes! Wish me luck! I'll let you know if my card moves on to the top ten.

Here are some details on how I put it together...

I stamped the image from Time For Bubble (My Favorite Things) and then colored the skin tones with Copic markers E51, E53 and my colorless blender. Sorry, I didn't get it pictured, but the tub was colored with C1, C3 and my colorless blender. After coloring the tub and legs, I cut out that portion of the image to be popped up later.

Stamped the image again and colored the rug with RV21, RV23 and RV25. Then I used a black Memento marker to make lines around the outside band of the rug to make it look braided. I also added black dots to the top of the rug, although that is not picured. Also not pictured, I colored the mirror frame with the same colors and cut it out.

Then I colored the tub and legs the same as above and cut those out, with the rug included.

To make the curtain, I made some masking templates. I started by cutting two ovals with my oval nestabilities. Then I glued them together as shown above. I used those to trace a mirror image on another piece of paper.

Here are my two templates after cutting.

I used re-positionable tape on the backside of my templates and placed them over my cardstock, leaving some space between. Then I sponged some Pretty in Pink ink in the space between.

Next, I sponged some Regal Rose, just on the right side.

Added a pink line by tracing along the left side with my Rose Bud Memento marker.

Then I lifted the templates and moved them over, sponging the next segment in the same manner and adding the line on the left. I repeated that process until the entire right side of the cardstock was covered.

Next I added a horizontal line using my black Memento marker and added the bubbles in the corner. I used Copic markers E31 and E33 to color that area to look like a wood floor. I went over the whole area with E31 then added some corner shading and horizontal lines with E33. Then went back and blended the darker areas with E31.

Using my paper snips, I trimmed away the upper left portion of the cardstock, leaving the curtains and floor.

Then I cut a piece of Bittersweet Basic Grey designer paper to size. I took the frame I cut out earlier and backed it with a piece of silver metallic paper (manufacturer unknown) and adhered it to the patterend paper. I rotated it from it's normal position in the image, so that the flat side would be tucked behind the curtain.

Then I added a ribbon tie to the curtain and adhered the curtain/floor piece to the pattered paper. The ribbon is different than in the final project, because I remembered the brown cord from my Floral Frenzy Kit and replace it later in the project.

To create the valence over the curtain, I used Stampin' Up scallop border punch on a piece of white cardstock and then trimmed it to a narrow band. Then I used a scrap piece of cardstock to mask at each scallop and sponged just a bit of Pretty in Pink. I cut a piece of Pure Luxury Chocolate Kiss cardstock (available from Gina K next week), again using the scallop border punch, trimming it to a band slightly wider than the first.

Finally, I assembled the rest of the card. I placed the rub/tub piece down and then added pop dots the the tub/legs piece and added that on top of the first. Then I added the valence piece with the Chocolate Kiss piece behind it.

You can see that I replace the ribbon with brown cord. The sentiment was stamped and then cut out with oval nestabilities and backed with a Chocolate Kiss scallop piece.

Below the main image panel I layered Chocolate Kiss, more Bittersweet Basic Grey patterned paper, another Chocolate Kiss layer and then a Pretty in Pink (SU) card base.

For the inside of the card, I layered Pure Luxury Ivory, Chocolate Kiss and more Bittersweet Basic Grey.

Whew! That was a long one, wasn't it? Thanks for sticking with me. Let me know if you have any questions.

Have a great day!
