Beautiful Iris Card Making Tutorial

Hello there! Today I have a card featuring a beautiful iris image from the Stately Flowers 8 by Melanie Muenchinger.  This stamp set is sold out right now, but it is on order and will be back in stock very soon. You'll be able to find it at this link, when it gets back in stock. The iris image has to be one of my all time favorite stamps. So fun to color!

To make the card, begin by stamping the iris, using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, on white cardstock.

Using Copic markers to color, start with Y17 on the stamina and the bases of the upper petal.

On the petals, blend out slightly using Y21.

Blend out a little further using E00.

Fill in the remainder on all the petals, using RV21.

On the lower petals, use RV14, starting at the outsides and working inward.

Switch to RV17 and again, start at the outside and work inward, stopping sooner than the previous color. Use this marker to add a bit of shading at the ends of the upper petals, too.

Deepen the shading yet again, using RV19. Start at the outside of the petals and work inward, not quite as far as the previous color.

Switch to V09 and add shading only at the very edges, along the stamp lines. Add some to the upper petals, too, but very lightly.

Use YR14 to add a touch of orange at the base of the upper petal, on the yellow area. Feather in very lightly into the upper areas.

Use YG03 to fill in the entire stem section.

Add YG07 to the lower part of the stem and to the darker parts on the upper stem.

Add a little more shading with YG95. After coloring, cut out the image using scissors.

Cut and emboss Spellbinders® Majestic Labels Eight #3 (with #1 being the smallest die template in the set) from white cardstock. With the die cut still in the die template, sponge around the edges using Gina K Sweet Corn ink. (Memento Cantaloupe alternative).

Then lightly sponge along the bottom and partway up the sides using Gina K Bubblegum Pink ink. (Memento Rose Bud very lightly alternative).

Trim white cardstock to 4 1/4 by 11 and score at 5 1/2 inches. To create the embossed frame,  place Spellbinders A2 Matting Basics A #5 & #6 on the card base front, secure with low tack tape and emboss.

Trim a narrow piece of white cardstock and stamp the sentiment, from Vogue Vases 2, using Gina K Passionate Pink ink. (Memento Rose Bud or Lilac Posies alternative) Trim ends with scissors.

Assemble the card, using adhesive foam squares to adhere the layers.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the wonderful and detailed tutorial. Gotta add some Copics to my inventory though. I would love to see a tutorial using more of the V or BV shades. I have a real problem getting the purples blended right.

PS - thanks for including the Memento equivalent of the Gina K Inks.

Beautiful coloring. I like how you leave a little white to accent the flower petals. Hard to make myself do that.
