Floating Lotus

Goodmorning! I hope your weekend is off to a good start. Here is a card I made using Melanie's A Year of Flowers set. This flower is one of my favorites in the set, because it does double duty either as a chrysanthemum or a lotus flower.

I wanted to do a reflection on this card and I don't have a reverse image stamp, so I used the plastic sheet from my Stamp-a-ma-jig. I stamped the image on the sheet with Momento ink.

Next, I turned the sheet over and pressed it on my cardstock, leaving a reversed image that is not quite as dark as if I had stamped it directly.

Now I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig in the fashion it was intended. I placed the plastic sheet into the corner of the guide and then stamped my image on the plastic, lining my acrylic block up with the corner of the guide.

Then I placed the plastic sheet on my cardstock where I wanted my image to be and moved the guide into position.

Being careful not to move the guide, I removed the plastic sheet and stamped my image, using the guide to place it exactly where I wanted it.

I used E53, R20, R22 and R24 to color the lotus. I started with E53, leaving a portion of each petal white. Then I added each color working lighter to darker and using the previous color to blend the next one.

For the reflection, I used E53 again and went over the entire image.

Then I just used R20 and R22, leaving off the darkest color since I wanted the reflection to be a bit lighter.

I went over both images with my Versa Mark pen and then heat embossed the images with clear embossing powder.

Sponged over the entire surface with Bashful Blue ink. The embossing resists the ink, leaving the image clean.

Used post-it notes to create a horizon line and sponged more Bashful Blue and Ballet Blue, going darker around the edges.

Using a stamp from Tropical Flowers, I inked up with Not Quite Navy, stamped off once on scratch paper and then stamped on my cardstock. I really like the images from Tropical Flowers for framing my scenes and drawing the eye to the focal image.


I used another image from Tropical Flowers and stamped it with Not Quite Navy, this time with it fully inked. Then I used some Copic markers to make some faint wave lines and shading around the flower.


I finished the card with black and white layers, and a card base made from Pacific Point (SU in color).
