Moroccan Vase Tutorial

Hello! Today I have another Vogue Vases 2 card and a confession to make. First, I'll make my confession. I've been claiming to be using Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® Matting Basics B on quite a few cards lately. I came to the realization a few days ago, that the Matting Basics set that I have is actually the A set, not B. Oops! Sorry about that confusion.

On the topic of the Matting Basics die templates, I get a lot of comments and questions about them.

Which set is best? I don't really think it matters which set you get. They alternate sizes, so if you have both sets, you could create narrower borders with your layers. Since the B set has one more die template than the A set, the penny pincher in me sees it as a better deal, but I can say that I have been thrilled with the A set and haven't felt deprived at all. Since I love narrow borders, the B set is now on my wish list, too.
Do they cut/emboss/stencil, or just emboss? Just like all Nestabilities, they do cut, emboss and stencil. On this card I used all three techniques on the focal layer, but on the card base I only embossed to create an embossed frame. I really love that you have that option with Spellbinders die templates! Do I really need them? When I first saw the Matting Basics sets, I thought how perfect they would be for beginning stampers, but that I didn't really need them. But then I used them and fell in love. Even though I make so many cards, I don't really think about measuring for A2 cards anymore, I love being able to stencil and emboss my layers, so I'm finding myself reaching for my Matting Basics more and more often. I don't know how I ever got by without them!

To make my card, I started by cutting and embossing Pure Luxury White card stock with Spellbinders Matting Basics A and sponged some Memento Cantaloupe ink while still in the die template.

Then I sponged lightly with Memento Toffee Crunch ink.

I stamped the solid vase image using Memento Morocco ink.

Then I added some shading to the vase with my BV00 Copic marker.

I used a sticky note to mask off the vase, then stamped the foliage with Memento Bamboo Leaves.

I removed the mask and added a shadow below the vase using W3.

Then darkened the shadow right at the base of the vase with W5.

The card base is 4 ¼ by 5 ½ inches and made with Pure Luxury Tomato Soup card stock. I embossed the frame, using a larger die template from Matting Basics A and added some fabulous Zva bling to embellish. The sentiment was stamped on white, using Memento Morocco ink and adhered with Pop Dots.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day!
