I began by cutting a piece of Pure Luxury White card stock to 3½ by 4 inches. Then I sponged Memento Dandelion ink.
I cut a two circles using Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® Circles to use as masks.
I placed my circles and sponged Memento Cantaloupe ink.
Then sponged Memento Desert Sand.
Sponged Memento Potter's Clay from the top and bottom.
Sponged Memento Rich Cocoa.
I wanted to tear two sticky notes to be the mirror of each other, so I placed them sticky sides together, then tore the edges.
I separated the sticky notes and placed them on the background where I wanted the horizon line, with just a bit of space between them. This way I was sponging the background and reflection at the same time. I sponged Memento Rich Cocoa.
I tore a slope in the masks and replaced them, sponging Memento Potter's Clay.
Tore a slope on the other side and sponged Memento Desert Sand and very lightly with a bit of Potter's Clay.
Then I placed a straight edge of my mask and sponged a bit more Rich Cocoa to make an actual horizon line.
Stamped the tree, from Wild About You, using Memento Tuxedo Black. I mask the bottom of the tree so the trunk would disappear into the water. Notice how the tree extends over the edge of the paper?
Here is where I messed up. I thought it would be so clever to stamp the reflection without re-inking so the image would be lighter. In concept, it should have worked out, but since the tree had gone over the edge of the paper, it left a line of heavier ink on the stamp, so when I stamped the reflection, that line showed up.
So if you follow this tutorial, be sure to re-ink the tree, then stamp off on scratch paper, then stamp the reflection. (remember the time I dropped an ink pad on a card?)
I stamped the heron with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Then I set about covering up my mistake. Apparently, I was so distressed over the incident, I failed to take photos of what I did. I used my N3 and N5 Copic makers to scumble in some more shadows to the tree and also to add a shadow to the heron. Then I added some ripples to the water with N5 and an opaque white gel pen.
Here you can see how adding the shading and ripples made a difference. I layered with Pure Luxury Chocolate Brown and Tan Leather. I added the sentiment to the Tan Leather layer and used a Scrapbook Adhesives tape runner to adhered the layers.
Oh the back side I added 3D Foam Squares by Scrapbook Adhesives to pop up my layers. I love these foam squares. So sticky! Scapbook Adhesives is another of the companies that sent supplies to the Spellbinders retreat and I'm so happy to have discovered their wonderful products!
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day!

ReplyDeleteIf you hadn't told us, we'd have never known about the mistake. But thanks for letting us know that even the pros make mistakes and show ways of fixing them. My mistakes usually go in the trash or get flipped and recycled into another project.

Simply amazing & nothing you do could EVER be considered a mistake !!! This background is wonderful as ALL of them are & I'm curious how you got the straight edge with your embossing die. When I went to buy one it looked like it has a scalloped edge & I would love to know how you got it straight. It doesn't look like there's enough space to cut it off.
ReplyDeleteAmazing. Thanks for the tutorial. By Tina
