Zoo Animals - Gina K Preview Day 2

Today I am previewing Asela Hopkin's newest stamp set, Zoo Animals. This set is filled with whimsical zoo critters and they are so much fun!

I was inspired to make this straw toppers using some of the images from this set. Wouldn't these be great at a kid party? You could make place mats, wrapping paper and decorations. My daughter is sixteen now and I miss doing those fun kid birthday parties. When I was a kid, I hated to drink my milk, and drinking it throgh a straw, especially a funky straw like this, always made it taste better. LOL

I started by coloring my image and cutting it out. I used Copic markers R21, R23 and R25.

Then I layer the elephant on three different sized oval, cut with my nestabilities. You could do whatever shape suits your fancy.

For the back, I cut a strip of cardstock, 1 inch by 3 inches, then scored at 1/2, 1, 2, 2 1/2 inches.

Used a standard hole punch in two places as shown.

Made the folds and placed heavy tack tape as shown.

Then I adhered the strip to the back of the oval. One thing to keep in mind when place the strip down, is how loosely your straw fits through the holes. If it is nice and snug, no worries, just make nice right angles. If the straw slides too loosely, then it will slide down into the drink. To prevent that, change the angle of the folds so that they are spread farther apart. This will provide some tension and hold the topper in place when it is on the straw. Hope that makes sense.
