Calm Seas Tutorial

Hello! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I'm getting a jump on making father's day cards this year and this is the first. I used images from By The Sea.

To begin, I cut Pure Luxury card stock with  Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® Labels 18, then began sponging with Memento Cantaloupe ink.

Sponged a bit of Memento Angel Pink.

Sponged Memento Lulu Lavender.

Sponged Memento Summer Sky.

Sponged Memento Danube Blue.

Next, I added sticky notes to mask the sky and sponged  more Memento Danube Blue.

Sponged Memento Paris Dusk.

I added some highlights to the waves with an opaque gel pen. To soften the look a bit, I smudged the ink with my finger while it was still wet.

Then I added low lights with B24 and B26 Copic markers.

I set the background aside and stamped the lighthouse on another piece of Pure Luxury white and began coloring with BV000.

Added BV00.

Added BV11.

Added BV13.

 Added BV17.

Added some shading with N5.

Then added N7. I used Y13 for the light.  After coloring, I cut out the image.

I masked off the edges of the background and stamped the lighthouse.

Then I adhered the colored lighthouse to the background and added some shading with N5.

More shading with N7.

Stamped the seagulls with Memento Tuxedo Black.

My card base is Pure Luxury Baby Boy Blue (4 ¼ by 5 ½ inches). I added score lines to the card base with my Scor-Buddy and rounded the corners my X-acto corner rounder (another gift from Elmers to the Spellbinders DT - love it!).

Thanks for stopping by. Don't worry about me if you don't see a new post until Friday. I expect to have a busy week. I hope you have a great day!

  16. This is beautiful, thanks for the step by step instructions, I really like that. I have a question, however; why did you stamp the lighthouse on the background and then cover it up with the colored/cut out lighthouse?

    Thanks for sharing!!
