Gina K Inspiration Hop Day 2

The Design Team for Gina K. Designs welcomes you to another fabulous Inspiration Blog Hop!!! Gina and the Design Team will inspire you with many beautiful ideas! And as you hop through their blogs, make sure to leave a comment on each of them because we will choose a few random comments and those stampers will each win a grab bag of deeply etched, pre-cut Gina K. Designs stamps! To see the full list of winners check the Big News forum at Stamp TV a couple of days after the hops!!

Hello and happy Monday to you! The Gina K Design Team are hopping today with more inspiration featuring two more new stamp sets from our release this past Thursday. First up is the new set I illustrated, called Wild About You. This set has images of tranquil African animals, both line are and silhouette for a variety of techniques. For my first projects, I made a gift bag/box. The details for this projects can be seen below.

On this card, I again used images from Wild About You. This is also the sample card for a challenge I am hosting at StampTV. I would love for you to play along. I'll be posting a tutorial for this card later in the week. (probably Friday) BTW, there are a bunch of fun challenges for you to play along with in celebration of StampTV's 3rd Anniversary. You can find them all here.

Next up is a super adorable stamp set from Rupa Shevde, called Blooming With Blessings. The images in this set are so cute and fun. They will be perfect for spring, kids and even all year. I will be posting the tutorial for this card early next week.

For more inspiration, check out the rest of the design team blogs…

To make the Wild Birthday Bag/Box, I first stamped the giraffe on a bit of Pure Luxury White. I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp, then colored with Copics, starting by filling in with YR000.

I began my shading with E53.

Then more shading with E35. I wasn't worrying about staying in the lines, since I planned to cut out this image.

Next, I began coloring in the spots, again using E35.

Then I added some more color to the spots with E37, using it more liberally on the body and next, and leaving the spots on the legs alone.

Finally, I added E59 to deepen the shading on the spots on the upper body, back and neck. After coloring, I cut out the image.

For the background, I cut a piece of Pure Luxury Ivory using Spellbinders Labels 4 Nestablities Die Templates. Then I sponged Memento Cantaloupe ink while still in the die template.

Sponged Memento Desert Sand at the bottom.

Then sponged Memento Potter's Clay, heavier at the bottom and very lightly around the top edges.

I placed a sticky note to mask the top and sponged lightly with Memento Rich Cocoa to create a horizon line.

Removed the sticky note and stamped two sizes of the grass along the ground. I used Memento Rich Cocoa ink, but I stamped off on scratch paper after inking to make the image lighter.

I stamped the tree and silhouette giraffe using Memento Tuxedo black ink, but again I stamped off on scratch paper to make the image lighter.

I placed Pop Dots on the back of the giraffe head and upper body.

Then I adhered the giraffe to the background. I adhered the legs directly to the background, letting the head and upper body pop out thanks for the Pop Dots.

I created a layer of Pure Luxury Chocolate Brown, trimming the corners with the same Spellbinders Labels 4 die template that I used for the background. I cut the layer to slightly less than 3 by 5 inches, then placed a corner into the die template and ran it through my Grand Calibur machine. Then I place another corner and so on until all four corners were trimmed.

To create the box, cut a sheet of card stock to 8 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches. I used Pure Luxury Tan Leather for my box. Then score the 9 1/2 inch side at 1 1/2, 4 1/2, 6 and 9 inches.

Rotate and score at 1 1/2 inches. Then you need score at 6 1/2 inches, but only score the narrow sections, leaving the wider sections unscored. You can click the images to see them larger.

Now we need to score some angles so the box/bag top will pleat to close later. Above the two small score lines you just made, score the angled lines as shown. This is a little complicated to do because you can't see to line up the score lines. You just have to estimate it to get the scores to be like an inverted V. It doesn't have to be perfect, but having the score lines there will make it easier to close up the box/bag later.

After all the scoring is finished, crease all the score lines, Then make some cut lines as shown. You can trim away the tiny section on the side. These sections will for the bottom of the box.

Add some Scor-Tape or other strong adhesive to the narrow side, then adhere to the other side.

Then you can close up the bottom.

When finished, your bag/box should look like this. The pleats at the top allow the front and back to come together, like a bag or milk carton.

I used my Crop-a-dile to punch some holes in the top, keeping the bag closed while punching the holes, so they would line up.

Then I added eyelets to the holes.

I used some jute twine to snug up the opening. The tag was cut using Spellbinders Circle die template and sponged with Memento Cantaloupe and Potter's Clay. The sentiment is also from Wild About You.

Come back tomorrow for another fun inspiration blog hop. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day!
