Hi and happy Saturday! Today I made a bookmark for Donna's 3-D challenge this month on stampTV and Melanie's Friday Potluck challenge, and the inspiration challenge at SCS today. The inspiration challenge was a tough one, so I mostly just used the color from this photo and the flower from this one. Donna's challenge was to make a bookmark and Melanie's was to use piercing. Participants in both of those challenges have the opportunity to win a free stamp set from Gina K Designs.
If you haven't done so yet, don't forget to hop over to Cat's blog to enter for a chance to win my new stamp set, Out West.
Here is how I made this bookmark...
I stamped the gardenia from Asela's new set, Friendship's Garden, using Memento Tuxedo Black inks. Then I used Copic marker, YG02 in the very centers of the petals.
Next I added Y21 and blended out a ways.
Finally I used my colorless blender to push the color out from the centers, leaving the outermost parts completely white. I had to add a bit more color with the first two markers after blending. Then I cut out the flower.
To make the sponged background layer, I cut a piece of Cream Velvet cardstock, from the Papertemptress, to 1 7/8 by 4 1/4 inches. This was the first time I have used Patricia's velvet cardstock and it sponged so beautifully. It took the color very smoothly and was easy to blend. I sponged Certainly Celery & Old Olive on the bottom and So Saffron & Apricot Appeal on the top.
Then I stamped the branch from Tropical Flowers using Certainly Celery ink. adhered the flower and stamped the sentiment from Friendship's Garden. Then I did the piercing and added layers of Pure Luxury Black Onyx and So Saffron (Stampin Up) cardstocks.
To do the ribbon, I first added an eyelet and then fed both ends of a piece of Apricot Appeal ribbon through. I used my Tim Holtz scissors to cut the ribbon into points, so they would fit through the eyelet, but as you can see they get frayed in the process and had to be trimmed again after I finished.
Next I fed the two loose ends through the loop and pulled it snug.
I really liked Donna's sample and the bow she put on her bookmark, so I decied to do the same thing. I loosend the loop I had pulled tight and fed a piece of ribbon through.
Then just tied a bow.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!
