Lots of Dots

Here is a project I did for the color challenge I posted at stampTV on Monday, which I combined with Donna's monthy 3-D challenge. There is still time to play in both challenges for a chance to win a free stamp set from Gina K Designs. Donna challenged us to make a 3 inch purse/box and provided a template. The matching card is optional.

Here a few of the details...

I stamped the tulips from A Year of Flowers using Memento ink. I stamped the first one, then masked over it and stamped the second and then added stems. They were colored with Copic markers, Y11, Y13, Y21, Y15, Y17 and YR16. I started with the lightest color and colored it in from the base of the flower, bringing it up, but leaving some white. Then I worked in the rest of the colors getting darker as I went and each time not going as far as the last time.

Colored the stemps with YG93 and YG03. After that, I cut the entire image out and started my box.

You can find Donna's template, which I followed, for the the three inch box in the 3-D challenge thread at stampTV. I started with a 5 by 7 inch piece of card stock. This is from the Sweet as Sugar digital paper from Gina K, printed on Pure Luxury white cardstock. I placed it in my Scor-Pal, horizontally, and scored at 3 and 4 inches.

Then I rotated it so that it was vertical and scored at 1 and 4 inches.

Next, I did the cuts to make flaps as directed on Donna's template and creased all the fold lines. Then I used my sister's new EK Success slimline border punch and punched on the narrow side of each end.

When using a border punch like this, I usually punch right in the center to start, then slide the cardstock over and line up the punched away part with the image on the punch. You can see above that all the little holes I punched out form the center, are now lined up with the silver dots pictured on the punch. Doing it this way allows you to have a seemless border and you can set the punch on a hard surface and press down to punch. This is much easier than turning the punch over to line up the holes and holding it in the air to punch.

Next, I cut a scallop border along a piece of So Saffron cardstock, using the same method I described above.

After that, I cut the scalloped border into a narrow strip. Check out all those little punched dots from when I punched the dots with the first punch. Wouldn't that punch make some fun confetti to include in the celebration card?

Then I cut a strip of Real Red and adhered it to the yellow, cut the length to match the box, and scored at 1 inch from each end. After that, I adhered the yellow/red piece, as a backing to the box. I did the same thing for each end of the box, so the border would run all the way around.

Turned the box over and folded the tabs in, then added some Scor-Tape to each.

With the tabs in, I adhered the flaps from one side of the box. Before adding Scor-Tape to the flaps on the other side, I added ribbon handles, held with brads. Then I added the Scor-Tape and adhered the flaps.

Here is the box, finished. I cut an over with my Nestabilities and sponged it lightly with So Saffron and Apricot Appeal. Stamped a greeting from Elegant Flowers (Floral Frenzy Kit) and backed it with a Real Red scallop oval. Placed my cut out tulips and added some red dots around the oval with a red marker.

I won't go into any detail about the card, since it is all pretty much the same as the box.

Thanks for popping in today. I hope you have a great weekend and don't forget the Gina K Designs release previews start Monday.
