Butterfly Wishes

Hello! It's Wednesday and that means a new technique video and challenge on stampTV. This week Gina did two videos on how to emboss resist and since that is one of my favorite techniques, I had to play along. I also used the sketch from today's SCS sketch challenge.

Here are a few details from my card...

I used the butterfly from Take Flight and stamped it with black Stazon ink. Then I used Memento markers to color it. (colors used Lady Bug, Tangelo, Cantaloupe and Dandelion)

I used my Versa Mark pen to go over the entire image so my embossing powder would stick.

I've mentioned this before, but I really like to use these Memento markers for emboss resisting, if I am using my Versa Mark pen to get the embossing powder to stick, since the colors don't smear at all with Memento. As much as I love my Copics, sometimes I lose a bit of vibrancy when I go over the image with my Versa Mark pen.

After embossing, I sponged some So Saffron, Bashful Blue and Ballet Blue ink on the background.

Next, I used a post-it note, cut down to 2.5 inches square to mask off a portion of the cardstock and sponged more of the blues and some Lavender Lace ink.

Then I removed that post-it and used two post-its to mask off the lower right corner and stamped some branches from Tropical Flowers, using Almost Amethyst and Lavender Lace ink.

Here is the completed card close up. I used some Stampin' Up SAB designer paper for the lower panel. The cardbase is Lavender Lace.

Just a few embossing tips...

In her video, Gina uses an embossing buddy to rub on her image before applying the Versa Mark ink. This is important, because static will cause some bits of embossing powder to stick on the paper, otherwise. Then when you sponge on the ink, those random bits of embossing will leave little white spots where they resist the ink. It's also a good idea to use an embossing buddy when using glitter, to prevent it from sticking in unwanted places. If you don't have an embossing buddy yet, but want to try this technique, you can improvise with a dryer sheet.

But if you are going to be doing heat embossing or using glitter with any frequency, you will definitely appreciate having an embossing buddy.

Another thing you might want to do is put your most frequently used embossing powder and glitter in flat plastic storage containers. I keep my clear EP and iridescent glitter in these and use a plastic spoon to sprinkle the powder while holding the image over the container. Then I don't have to pour the powder back into the original container, that frequently has a narrow opening.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you have a great day!
