So Quiet

It seems so quiet in the house. We lost our sweet Pebbles on Saturday. A week ago she seemed to be having some tummy troubles so I took her to the vet. He gave her a shot and sent us home with some medicine, and she bounced right back the next day. She was back to playing, seemed energetic and happy, just our normal little happy dog. Then on Friday evening, she seemed worse again, so I took her to the emergency vet. She was diagnosed with cancer. It was very advanced and the vet said it was untreatable and we needed to think about letting her go very soon, maybe even that night. We were just stunned. I saw the scans and her poor little tummy was so full of tumors.

We brought her home that night with some pain meds and special food and gave her lots of cuddles. The next morning we could see she had declined even more. Her tummy had distended and even though she wanted so much to play, she just couldn't. We knew it was time. I couldn't stand the thought of our sweet puppy in pain. My husband and daughter were there with me. We comforted and petted her as the light left her eyes and now the world just isn't as bright and beautiful without her in it.

I didn't realize how much of my days were centered around Pebbles. She was always just an arms length away. I'm so used to reaching out to touch her and now she isn't there. We had her in our family for nine years and were completely unprepared to lose her so soon. I'm trying to stay busy and get used to a new routine that doesn't have Pebbles in it. Yesterday, when I was heading outside to feed the fish in the pond, I called her to come with me. I'll have to get used to doing these things without her now, but it's going to take some time.

I've been distracting myself with TV and doing some drawing, but when I sit and try to work on a card, I just start thinking of Pebbles and can't seem to concentrate. I'm sure I'll be able to get back to it soon, but I just wanted to explain why I may be absent for a bit. I'll be back soon. Thanks for understanding.

I'm so sorry about Peebles. she sure is a beautiful girl. I know how you feel. We lost our little pug boy Alfred Saturday morning after he was diagnosed with a collapsing trachea earlier this year. It's so hard. We're just blessed to have them the little time we do. Hugs to you.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Pebbles. They are a part of the family, no doubt. Try to cling to the good memories and know that you gave her the last gift of love you could give her by letting her go. She isn't in any pain anymore and she is romping up in Heaven with Baxter and other animals.....she'll have her own cloud too. Hugs~~

Oh I am so sorry! I know how you feel and what you are going through. I lost my little Noogie my little Boston Terrier. I had her 10 years and she went everywhere we went. I had to have hubby take her, I couldn't do it. I cried like a baby. Then we had another Boston Annie, and she was fine one morning and the next evening, she had a stroke or heart problems because she laid down in her bed, and lost her in a few hours. She was 8. Kept her comfy as possible. It will get better. I now have no pets, and don't know what to do with myself sometimes. We can't have dogs where we live, and they are so much company. Your pain will ease, and then you will start feeling joy of remembering all the good times. BIG BIG Hugs! Leah Ann

I am so sorry. Take comfort in that she is waiting for you on the Rainbow Bridge.

The Rainbow Bridge inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Theresa, I'm very sorry for the loss of your Pebbles. It's been four years since my beloved Otis dog and dear cat Amber passed due to illness. I needed to make the same decision as you but when I look back at pictures of them at the end of their lives I know that I did the right thing because there was such a saddness in their eyes. So now I remember the happy times when they were both running and playing and being naughty. To this day, there I times when I come home and still want to call their names. Always remember that Pebbles had a wonderful loving home and that he'll be playing and pain free.

Theresa, I'm so sorry to hear you've lost Pebbles - a cherished family member. I've been there, I've even had to miss work, so don't worry about taking some time off - you need to grieve. It will take awhile - I remember after losing one of my cats, I could still "hear" him moving around the house. Now my dog is 15-1/2, and failing, so I'll be going through it again too soon. You gave Pebbles the best gift - being with her and holding her at the end. I do believe animals go to heaven - now she is running and playing, free of pain.

Theresa,
Words can't replace that hole in your heart, but they can help ease the pain. I have always felt pets are simply part of an immmediate extention of the family.
I had to make the same decision years ago, after I aquired a sweatheart of a black lab after losing my Mom. One night came in let Bertha out to potty for the night and having to carry a 90 lb dog back into the house, because Bertha no onger had use of her hind legs. As I layed with with her all night long sobbing (& reliving the death of my Mom) I made the decision, I needed to put her down painlessly and peacefully. That next morning I called my vet and took her in. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I knew my Mother would never want Bertha to suffer for a single second.

You made that decision, even though it was sooo hard. I guess Pebbles and Bertha are having fun in doggie heaven together. What a happy thought! Hugz!

Theresa, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved Pebbles. Pets are family and they bring so much love and joy. Friends lost my favorite little poodle about two and a half years ago when I was away on vacation. This was a very difficult time for me and it was hard to cope. It was around this time that I discovered stamping and StampTV. I would distract myself by learning and trying Gina's techniques. I can surely relate to your pain of
losing Pebbles and what a beautiful
dog she was.I write this with tears as
you automatically reach out for her,

lifetime and have loved each and every
one.But I did have a very favorite and
I lost her 3 yrs ago and I still cry
sometimes.I'd see her bed and expected
her to be in it and I to would call her. Some things we/I did to help a bit
was we planted a memorial garden & I
ordered a concrete bench for it with a
beautiful writing on it. Also,my
husband & I had a funeral-a prayer, a
reading. I have a quote to share with
you-"A dog is the only thing on this
earth that loves you more than he loves himself" Henry Shaw and one more,"If there is a heaven, it's certain our animals are to be there.
Their lives become so interwoven with
our own, it would take more than an
archangel to disentangle them." Pam
Brown I know we will meet again in

have saved her from so much more pain.
May god bless you and comfort you -

Dear Theresa, I am so sorry for your loss of your Pebbles. I am an animal lover myself. My heart goes out to you and your family. I'm glad you all were able to be there with her. Blessings, Vicki

Oh dear Theresa, you have my sympathy in the death of your little doggie! Just got back from PA and read this email. May you be comforted by the God of all peace!

Oh, Theresa, I'm so sad to hear this about your furry family member. They really do become a member of the family, don't they? Our oldest lab is 9.5 and we cherish every day with him. He has had two knee surgeries and has potential bad hips. I know he must be in pain every day, but he keeps going like a young pup. It's going to be SO hard to lose him. My thoughts are with you and your family.

So Sorry for your loss My heart goes out to you!! But she is pain free, it is very hard for us and it is the last unselfish act of love we can do for them. They are so loyal to us!
After having my Shitzu, Baby for 16yrs, we then got Tyler
I just had to put my Tyler (5yrs) to sleep in Dec. and vowed no more , but they leave a hole in our hearts!
I then acquired Lily (Maltese) and she fills me with such Joy! Baby & Tyler is never far from my mind, but things do get a little brighter!
You will be in my prayers, and remember, you have ALOT of LOVE to offer another Fur baby who NEEDS you, and you need them!
Hugs
Lorianna
