Howdy Jugs

Hiya, stampers! My card today is for the JUGS (Just Us Girls) challenge blog. JUGS is doing a Wild Wild West theme this week to help promote a rodeo fundraiser being held by one of their DT girls, Alicia, to benefit neuroblastoma cancer - she lost her 4 year old son, Ethan, to it.

Ethan's Rodeo is  Fri and Sat next week and held at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Mendon, Il. Let's help spread the news to anyone that lives near there. It's a great way to have a fun time and all proceeds benefit Neuroblastoma Cancer Research.

What can you do to help? Play in the Jugs challenge! I'm donating an Out West stamp set as a prize, so be sure to play along for a chance to win.

I found this poster that I used for inspiration for my card. Most images are from Out West from Gina K Designs.

I colored the images with Copics, starting with E51 on the boots.

I added E53.

Then added E35.

Added E57, mainly to the soles, heels and inside of the tops.

I used a Potter's Clay Memento marker on the details. It was a lot easier to get the fine detail area filled in using the fine tip of the Memento marker, than if I had used my brush tip on my Copics. After coloring, I cut out the boots.

I used E35 on the rope accent on the cowboy hat, then used N7 for the shading on the hat.

Added N5.

Added N3.

Filled in with N1.

For my fence posts, I used two narrow scraps of Pure Luxury White cardstock. I swiped my Memento Desert Sand ink pad across it. I held it with a finger on one end, then turned it around and swiped the small part that I had covered with my finger before.

I did the same thing with Memento Rich Cocoa. As you can see, the part that overlapped got quite a bit darker with the Rich Cocoa. I repeated the process with the second scrap.

With the piece that was going to be the vertical post, I trimmed off most of the very dark part, so that would be the top of the post. I wanted top of the post to look a little darker for an aged look.

Then I placed the vertical piece over the horizontal piece, positioned right on that dark section, so that the dark part was just peeking out either side. That gave it a nice shadowed look.

For the background, I sponged Memento Cantaloupe ink in the center.

Then I sponged Memento Desert Sand, starting at the edges and working in to meet the Cantaloupe.

Sponged Memento Rich Cocoa.

Then I masked off the top part and sponged in the foreground with Memento London Fog.

I stamped the grass (from Hang In There - Gina K Designs), using Memento Desert Sand. I also added some texture to the foreground, using my N5 and W3 Copics. I just dotted them around a bit. (sorry for the blurry pic).

I coiled up a small piece of jute twine and tied off the ends. I placed it on the top of the fence posts and then used Pop Dots to adhere the fence to the background. I also used Pop Dots to adhere the Cowboy Hat and Boots.

After assembling the card, I used my Scor-bug to make some wavy lines across the card base. To do this, instead of using my Scor-pal to make straight lines, I used my tan Spellbinders embossing mat. That makes a great surface for your Scor-bug if you want to go free form. It's soft enough for the bug to emboss, but still stiff enough for it not to punch through if you are not pressing too hard.

I used Pure Luxury Pumpkin Spice and Chocolate Brown to layer and my card base is Tan Leather.

Thank you for stopping by. Have a great day!

Theresa, I admired this card earlier but didn't have time to comment. Now that it is almost midnight and I can't sleep, I popped on over! Thanks so much for sharing your techniques, especially since I am so Copic-challenged! Very helpful, and it all looks SO REAL. I am not good at scenery, so this is really impressive to me!

I LOVE this card! I have that set and used it to make my dad a father's day card - he used to have a cattle ranch and wore those exact same boots! He now works on a golf course. Do you have any plans on making golfing stamps? ;)

Thanks for sharing this card and for the tutorial. I love all the details that you put into it.
