Pink Baby Bear

This is a card I made for one of the VSN challenges last weekend, to make a monochromatic baby card.

I stamped the bear, from Oh, Baby! (Gina K Designs) with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then colored with Copics. I started with RV23.

Added some shading with RV29.

Started coloring the main part of the bear with R22.

Filled in with R20, leaving some white highlights, which I smoothed out with my blender pen. After coloring, I cut out the bear.

For the background, I stamped the lace doily, from Nana's Needlework (Gina K Designs), with Versa Mark, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

Then I sponged with Memento Angel Pink ink.

Sponged with Memento Rose Bud ink.

I layered with Pure Luxury Passionate Pink cardstock and used an Innocent Pink cardbase. The dotted layer made by sponging a piece of Pure Luxury White cardstock with Memento Angel Pink, then running through my Cuttlebug with my Swiss Dots folder, then sponging again.

This was the view at my house on Monday morning. We are fully into the kitchen remodel now. If there is a world record for dust accumulation, I think I could be a contender. Today we are finishing up all the drywall work and texturing and hope to start hanging cabinets tomorrow.

Thanks a bunch for the visit. I hope your day is fanstampalicious! (whew! that's three words in one - gonna have to remember that one)

Gone Fishing Tip Sheet

Here are some tips for my new stamp set, Gone Fishing.

The Fish

The fish can be focal images, or part of a scene.

Draw a line with a marker, or use string/wire to show the fish is hooked. Extend the line to one of the fishermen.

The fish can be jumping, or part of an underwater scene.

Use Crystal Effect, or clear embossing powder, to make the fish shiny.

Use a glitter pen to give them sparkly scales.

The Dock

The dock can be stamped alone, or incorporate the silhouette fisherman, or father/child stamps.

There are a few ways to place the father/child image on the dock…
Stamp the father/child image first, stamp again on scratch paper and cut out. Place the cut out scratch paper image over the first image, to act as a mask and then stamp the dock.

Stamp and color the father/child image, then use the emboss resist technique before stamping the dock.

Stamp and color the dock first. Then on a second piece of card stock, stamp and color the father/child image and cut it out. Adhere the cut out image on the dock.

Stamp the dock on the right of your card stock, so that it appears to be extending into the scene from the edge of the card stock.

Stamp the cattails first, then nestle the dock up against the cattails so that the right side is hidden by the cattails.

For a more dimensional look, stamp the dock and color, then stamp the dock a second time on a separate piece of card stock. Color the second dock and cut out, removing the legs. Then adhere to the first image.

Try paper piecing with pattern woodgrain or textured papers.

The Father/Child

The father/child stamp can also represent grandfather/child or brothers.

To make the child look like a girl, leave the bottom of the hair un-inked when stamping and then color it to look longer, color the clothing in more feminine colors.

Paper piece the clothing to create pattern.

Place them on the dock.

Place them on the bank, among the cattails.

The Fishing Flies

Use the larger fly as a focal image and the smaller, to create backgrounds and borders.

Fishing flies come in a variety of colors, so use your imagination and come up with some fun colors.

Use them to decorate envelopes.

“Hang” them from fishing line, twine or wire.

The Silhouette Fishermen

The fishermen can be place on the dock.

Create a sponged, or brayered background and then stamp them on the beach, or in the water.

Use them stamped in a light ink as a background image behind a sentiment.

The silhouette images are perfect for CAS (Clean and Simple) card designs.

Use the two stamps together to appear to be a father and child.

The Trees

Use the trees to create a line of trees on the far side of a lake or river.

Use them on the sides of the card to make a side bank or frame focal image.

You can color the trees all in green, or mix in some fall colors.

Stamp in lighter colors to and color faintly to indicate distance.

The Cattails

The cattails can be used alone or as part of a scene.

Stamp on the right edge of your card stock and build your scene from there.

Stamp side by side to get them to extend across your entire scene.

Embellishment Ideas

Use real fishing flies, lures and bobbers.

Use twine, hemp, wire and real fishing line in place of ribbon.

Use twigs to create a fishing pole.

Tear your paper edges or distress for a natural appearance.

Use netting from produce bags.

Project Ideas

Add real fishing flies and lures and make a shadow box or memory box.

Make a tile coaster gift set.

Stamp on the pocket of a simple white t-shirt.

Help your children make a fishing themed pencil holder as a father’s day present. (Use empty cylindrical containers like bread crumbs come in and alter it)

Scrapbook all those wonderful fishing photos.

Make a gift card holder and purchase a gift card from a favorite local tackle shop or water front restaurant.

Coordinating Stamp Sets

Happy Camper - All of the images in Happy Camper will compliment Gone Fishing. Two of the sentiments work with the sign; use the mountain stamp for your lake scene background; use the small fish for backgrounds, use the other images to add to your scenes.

Life Is Good – The cattails, cabin, trees, tree lined banks and deer can all be used to build your fishing scenes.

Gone Fishing works beautifully with the following Gina K Designs stamp sets, also...

Gifts From the Sea
Vintage Backgrounds
Guiding Light
King of the Grill
Tree Silhouettes
Just So Sporty
Special Fathers
Kindred Greetings for Him

Cutting Suggestions

The following images show how I cut out my stamp set.

I made two horizontal lines in this set that you can follow to cut the set into three sections. (click on the images to see larger)

In the top section, I made two vertical cuts. In the middle section, I made an L cut to remove the two sentiments. In the bottom section is the most complicated cut. Go straight across below the sentiments until you reach the small fishing fly, the make a curved cut below the father/child image.

Once you have it all in sections like this, it is just a matter of cutting out the individual stamps.

Here you can see how I placed the stamps on the binder sheet that comes with the set.

Sunset Fisherman

Hi there, Stampers! I'm back with another card I shared at the GKD release party last week. I used Gone Fishing images on this one.

I started with a piece of Pure Luxury White cardstock and sponged Memento Cantaloupe ink.

Sponged Memento Tangelo ink.

Sponged Memento Potter's Clay.

Sponged Memento Rich Cocoa.

I used a torn Post-it Note to mask off a small area and sponged Rich Cocoa more heavily.

Moved the post it up and over a bit, then sponged, using the same sponge dauber, without re-inking.

Stamped the large silhouette fisherman using Stazon black.

Then I decided some wispy clouds would be nice, so I a few swipes of color with my E53 and E33 Copic markers. The clouds seemed to be a little harsh, so I decided to use my blender pen to soften them a bit.

And here is where I learned that Copic Blender pens and Stazon ink don't work so well together. I really did know that already, but I guess I blocked it out. I wound up with a nice grey smear extending from the fishing pole. So I decided some nice grey clouds would make a nice addition and my mistake would seem intentional.

And here is where I discovered that scrubbing a Copic marker on card stock that is still damp from sponging, can result in tearing the top layer of the card. I used a N3 marker and added some wispy grey clouds. The little white tear marks in the clouds are "highlights." You could even say they are the silver lining.

Since I now had all those grey clouds, I added some more sponging with Memento London Fog.

In the end, I actually kinda like the mistakes. LOL. I layered with Pure Luxury Pumpkin Spice and Chocolate Brown.

Here is how I did the inside. I stamped the sentiment in black and the fish in London Fog.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!

May Flowers - VSN

Happy Sunday! Today I have a card I made quite some time ago, but I have been waiting to post it because it is my sample for the VSN Mini challenge I am hosting over at SCS. My challenge is to pop up a flower on your card.

To make my card, I stamped the daffodils, from Sending Sunshine, with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copics. I started with Y17.

Blended out from the Y17, with Y21. Then I filled in with Y000.

For the foliage, I colored with YG03, then used YG93 to shade.

I used an oval Nestabilies die to trace an oval lightly with pencil. Then I hand cut the oval, cutting carefully around the flowers where they extended past the oval.

After cutting, I sponged lightly with Memento Desert Sand ink.

I colored another flower image and cut out just the flowers, adhering them with Pop Dots to the first image.

To get the scallop edge on one side of my Creamy Caramel cardstock layer, I first cut the layer just narrower than my scallop square Nestabilities. Then I placed one side under an edge of the die and ran it through my bug.

I layered my oval with Pure Luxury Lovely Lavender. First, I had intended to have the lavender layer be scalloped, but I decided on a narrower frame, so I took the scalloped oval and ran it through the bug again, this time, placed in a plain oval. I wound up with that nifty scallop frame leftover, so I decided to incorporate it into the design.

My cardbase is 4.25 inches square and cut from Pure Luxury Sweet Corn cardstock.

Don't forget about my sketch challenge at STV. I'm working on putting together my tip sheet for Gone Fishing and hope to have that posted soon. I have cutting tips again, so if you get your set before I've posted my tip sheet and want those cutting tips, just let me know and I'll get those photos up asap.

Thank you for visiting. I hope you have a very happy day!

A Beachy Birthday

Hey, everyone! Happy Friday! I had a fun time at the GKD release party last night. You can find all the new stamp sets here. I made this card for to share at the party last night, using Melanie's new Gifts From the Sea stamp set.

I didn't get photos for a tutorial. It was during my last minute stamping frenzy. The background was sponged. The images were colored with Copics and cut out. The texture on the sand was done with the sand texture stamp from the set, stamped in Rich Cocoa and pigment white. Layers are Pure Luxury Black Onyx, Turquoise Sea and a Kraft cardbase.

Tonight is the VSN (virtual stamp night) mini at SCS. If you aren't familiar with VSN, there are a number of challenges posted, one each hour. Participants get 45 minutes to complete their projects and 15 minutes to clean up, upload photos, etc, before the next challenge is posted. You don't actually have to play right as the challenges are posted. You get all weekend, as long as you limit yourself to 45 minutes to make your card. I like to play along as they are posted, one after another. Somehow, knowing the next challenge is going to be posted soon, really gets my blood pumping.

Anyway, tonight, I will be hostessing a challenge for VSN and I want to invite you all to come play along. The mini tonight is just a warm-up for the big event in May. The big one spans two days with tons of challenges. I rarely get the time to play along, but I always have fun when I do. It is also good practice for me, since I tend to take way too much time planning my cards and fussing over layouts. When you only have 45 minutes to make the card, you really have to move.

I also have a sketch challenge going over at StampTV. I would love to have you play along there, too and there is a random chance to win a free stamp if you play along. Be sure to check out all the challenges and contest questions for more chances to win.

Here is the sketch for my challenge.

I also want to give a should out to my wonderful guest designers this month, Mary Anne K and Melissa Shultz. I'll be sharing some wonderful projects from these talented ladies, soon.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have a great day!

Gina K Preview - Vintage Backgrounds and Masculine Messages

It's day four of the Gina K Designs previews, and today, we are showing peeks of two more new stamp sets, Vintage Backgrounds, from Nina Brackett and Masculine Messages, the new Free with Three set from Gina K.

On this first card, I used two of the background images from Vintage Backgrounds. I stamped the dots background, using pigment white ink, on the Bubblegum Pink cardbase. I used another of the background images to create that pretty header at the top of the card. These gorgeous backgrounds are going to be perfect for making your own color coordinated backgrounds for your cards!

On this card, I used Vintage Borders again, combined with the new Free With Three set, Masculine Messages and the fishing fly from Gone Fishing.

On the inside, I used another sentiment from Masculine Messages and created the newsprint background with another image from Vintage Backgrounds.

To create the background on the front of the cardbase, I cut a mask in scratch paper, using my rectangle Nestabilities. Then I used re-positionable tape to hold it in place and stamped the background image with Memento Rich Cocoa ink.
