Not a Bear - Faux Grid Background

Hello! I am so late with this post today. I had intended to work on it first thing this morning, but I wound up having to run Pebbles the dog to the vet. She had a fox tail embedded at the base of her toenail. They had to anesthetize her to take it out so it was a long day for poor Pebbles. She is just fine, but a little sleepy still.

My card today was for the SCS Try a New Technique challenge to made a faux grid card. I used stamps from Jumping from Joy, Tropical Flowers and Happy Camper, all from Gina K. The larger sentiment is computer generated and the one on the sign is hand written.

Here are the details...

I started by stamping the sign, from Happy Camper, with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Then I colored with Copics, starting with E57 along the lines.

Then I added E55.

Next I filled in with E31, then used my blender pen to lift some color from the center of the sigh and post.

I used the same process on the bear from Jumping For Joy, going from dark to light, starting with E37, in the areas where I wanted the shadows.

Then I added E35.

Follow with E33 everywhere except the lightest areas.

Next I filled in with E31 and used my blender pen to add some highlights.

I cut out both images, trimming away the grass from the sign. Then I used my craft knife to slice a little opening, next to the bear paw and kneee, for the sign to slide into.

For my background, I cut a piece of Pure Luxury cardstock and sponged So Saffron over the entire surface.

Next I added Apricot Appeal to the edges, working my way in toward the center.

Then I added Pumpkin Pie, keeping it very close to the edges.

Used the two leafy stems from Tropical Flowers and stamped with Really Rust. I also stamped a second time before re-inking to created some fainter images.

To make the grid pattern, I used a quilting ruler and measure 1/2 inch from the bottom of the paper and drew a thin, lifting the pen when I got to a stamped image, so the line wouldn't pass through the image. I repeated the process, making a new line every 1/2 inch.

Next, I rotated the paper and added lines going the opposite direction.

Here is a view with all the grid lines in place.

I layered with Pure Luxury Black Onyx and Ivory, then used a Creamy Caramel (SU) cardbase.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day!
